Ratha Saptami or Magha Saptami is a celebration of our brightest star Surya, the Lord of energy and light. The event occurs in the month of Magha, on the seventh day (Saptami) in the waxing half of the moon (Shukla Paksha). Since Holy Scriptures imply that Surya was born to sage Kashyapa and his wife Aditi on this day, Hindus observe this day as Surya Jayanti as well.
The Sun god bestows numerous beneficial effects on us, day in and day out! In recognition of this fact Hindus traditionally invoke Him on this special day, offer prayers and seek His blessings. Some of the prayers include the Adityahridayam, Gayathri, Suryashtakam, Surya Sahasranamam.
Trimurti Temple will commemorate the event with Abhishekam to Surya Bhagavan.
